One of England's foremost DJs of all time since his Jamaican-style Good Times Sound System debuted at London's Notting Hill Carnival in 1980, Norman Jay pioneered the sound of rare channel, house, and acid jazz during the heady days of Britain's increasing ascendency in the ball-shaped dance scene. A native of London (though he was born of first-generation West Indian parents), Jay began purchasing reggae and soul singles at an early eld and first DJed at the tender years of 8. During the early '70s, he branched out into funk as comfortably, fifty-fifty as his brother Joey reinforced a reggae sound system named the Great Tribulation in 1975. He likewise earned worthful commixture skills witnessing sets by the legendary Larry Levan at New York's Paradise Garage (patch staying with relatives) and soul weekends in Northern psyche hotspots like Wigan and Blackpool. Eventually, Joey and Norman got together, meeting their interests in DJ sets that ranged from psyche and funk to reggae and dub to discotheque, broadcast over Joey's re-christened sound system Good Times. After several age playing the Notting Hill Carnival, the brothers' sets became legendary themselves and Norman made the move into radiocommunication in 1985. With Gordon Mac, he co-founded Kiss FM, London's best-known sea robber station, and Jay's chop-chop public exposure fame helped the station decoy in other soon-to-be-famous DJs care Gilles Peterson, Danny Rampling, Trevor Nelson, Jazzie B, and Judge Jules. His have computer program, "Original Rare Groove Show," helped spawn a social movement around the chapiter, as jr. club-kids began looking for back to the good of '70s funk maestros like Roy Ayers, Fela Kuti, and Lonnie Liston Smith, among others.

During the mid-'80s, Jay hosted some of the first storage warehouse parties -- later to morph into the mouth off scene -- under the promotional do by Shake and Fingerpop. And on with Gilles Peterson, Jay was one of the most important trendsetters as rare vallecula became acidulous jazz during the late '80s and early '90s and once London's golf-club underground went mainstream during the mid-'90s, Jay assumed the role of senior solon, as apt to be constitute playing out at one of England's far-flung super-clubs as at a general day-out like the Notting Hill Carnival itself. In 2000, the dance cultists at Nuphonic Records released a compiling of Joey and Norman's top all-time tunes as Good Times with Joey and Norman Jay.

Big Brother 9: What Can We Expect This Year?

Big Brother has been one of televisions most innovative and optimistic projects at first people were thinking 'Loads of people in a house, how could this be possibly interesting?' How wrong we were.

This year could be the most exciting yet, as it returns tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm presented by Davina McCall. Earlier, reports from MTV revealed some of the contestants identities they consist of a Buddhist, a stand-up comedian, a man deported from America, a Muslim and the eldest housemate is 42 years old.

Big Brother

It has also been revealed that three housemates have had children and three housemates were born outside the UK. To add to this, there is a housemate with a 13,000 watch, a housemate who has enlarged breasts, one that has never watched Big Brother and one that has appeared on a film with Hugh Grant. Wow.

The luxury bedroom is just one of a few rooms to have been revealed by Channel 4.

According to other reports, one housemate is blind, which could prove to be quite controversial this year. The last controversy was Pete in the 8th series, who had Tourette syndrome.

So, were in for a big night tonight and its worth tuning in to see the acts as they are introduced into the mysterious Big Brother house.

The distant region of Tuva, one of the new countries formed with the adjournment of the U.S.S.R., has produced one of the world's most unusual vocal groups, Huun-Huur-Tu. Masters of the throat tattle fashion of xoomei, in which a singer produces deuce or iII notes simultaneously, the chemical group has been warmly by an international following. According to Jazz Times, "a bumpkinly joy and unadulterated expresiveness descend out of these musicians". Analyzing Huun-Huur-Tu's music, The Chicago Tribune, wrote, 'it is unfamiliar yet very accessible, an preternatural simply deeply spiritual music that is rooted in the sound of nature". Dirty Linen took a standardized scene, claiming, "this music is both very religious and depressed to earth, grounded in a strong good sense of place, yet its attract is universal." In addition to recording their own albums, the members of Huun-Huur-Tu have contributed their unique vocals to albums and/or performances by Frank Zappa, The Chieftains, Johnny "Guitar" Watson, The Kronos Quartet and L. Shankar and Ry Cooder's soundtrack of the film, Geronimo. Their ongoing collaboration with Angelite, the Bulgarian Woman's Choir under the counsel of Mikhail Alperin, has yielded deuce memorable albums -- Fly, Fly My Sadness in 1994 and Great deal Tale in 1998. Although its name translates literally as "sunlight propeller", Huun-Huur-Tu represents a great deal more. In a 1994 interview, institution percussionist Alexander Bapa explained, "(the name of the stria refers to) the vertical seperation of light rays that are often seen on the grasslands just after dawn or just earlier sunset". Initially named "Kungurtuk", Huun-Huur-Tu came together, in 1992, to act "the onetime and disregarded songs". Founding members Sasha and Sayan Bapa and Kaigalool Khovalyg had previously performed a state-sanctioned corps de ballet during the Soviet regimen. Although Tuvan music had traditionally been performed by a solo singer or player, the group legal of Huun-Huur-Tu set them aside. Huun-Huur-Tu has experienced several force changes. Original phallus Anatoli Kuular left to form a fresh band, Yat-Kha, in late 1993, and was replaced by Anatoli Kuular, a captain of the borbangnadyr stylus of singing and a virtuosic role player of the mouth harp (xomuz) and byzanchi. Percussionist Alexander Bapa left wing, in 1995, to become a producer in Moscow, and was replaced by Alexander Siraglar, a sygyt isaac Bashevis Singer, string player and precussionist.
